Heirloom Apple Varieties

Scotts Winter

Did you know there was another Vermont Scott Farm in 1864 located in Newport? Well, as the Scott’s Winter name suggests, it was fittingly discovered there as a seedling. It is equally fitting that we grow it here at our coincidentally same-named farm. Scott’s Winter has a powerful sprightly and jowling tart bite that mellows out after storage. It is as tough as any Vermonter, as it keeps for months and months into the winter, holding tough to its firmness. A smaller apple by nature, this Scott has a gorgeous red wine and cherry bright red streaking tones that have a striking similarity to the Winesap apple. Wonderful and lively fresh but also highly recommended to be baked in a pie. We harvest mid-November.
