  • Rustic open-faced pies

    Sunday, September 21st

    1 pm to 3pm | $50

    Learn to make perfect pie crust! This class will start with the basics of making crust from scratch. We will then roll and assemble both savory and sweet open-faced pies using fruit from Scott Farm. Learn about great sweet savory combos (apple&onion&Gouda, cheddar, apple butternut squash,spiced peach&plum, poached pears etc), Participants will take home their pies and extra dough.

    What to bring: Scott Farm will provide all the ingredients for the pies as well as baking and other kitchen utensils for attendants. Please bring an apron and a container to bring your pies home.

    Instructor Bio: Ruby McAdoo is a seasoned chef, trained at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City and working for many years at Burdick’s Restaurant and in their pastry kitchen. Though she has hung up her chef’s hat, she loves to share her cooking and baking knowledge

  • Heirloom Apple Pie workshop

    Sunday October 5th &

    Saturday, November 1st

    10am-12pm | $50

    Learn the secrets of a delicious heirloom apple pie.

    In this workshop, you will learn the basics of a good pie crust and how to choose the best apple varieties for a pie. Participants will make and bake their own apple pies to take home and if time permits, make a second to donate to a good cause.

    What to bring: Scott Farm will provide all the ingredients for the pies as well as baking and other kitchen utensils for attendants. Please bring an apron, a rolling pin and a pie dish if you do not want to bake in a disposable one.

    Annie Sherman is a local Dummerston baker and has won prizes and praises for her apple pies for many years. Here is what Annie wrote in preparation for this workshop: "Baking is my therapy! I started at a young age watching my mother bake the best pies in the world! I eventually started working at The Bakery in West Dover VT where I had a blast. Marriage and children took my life in the direction of healthcare as a profession but baking has always been my first love.  I'm excited to share my passion and look forward to helping others develop their baking skills and maybe even fall in love with baking as I have!"

  • Paw Paw Workshop

    Saturday, October 11th at 1pm

    Are you curious about Pawpaws? Well, this is the workshop for you. Well, come and listen to Laurie who has years of experience and a absolute passion for this native american fruit

    Starting with the best possible introduction...TASTING!...this workshop will cover the natural history of pawpaw trees, which are both hardy here and almost entirely untroubled by pests and disease.  We'll cover their site requirements and the specifics of germination, planting, pollination, harvest and use.  Slides of Laurie's own fruiting trees and plenty of time for Q&A will round out the discussion.

    Bio:

    Laurie Lockwood lives in Canterbury, NH, on land that's been farmed for over 200 years.The old garden plot has become raised permaculture beds, and new fruit tree guilds dot the surrounding area.  Using understories of fruiting shrubs, aromatic herbs, and flowers, she grows pawpaws, pears, kiwis, elderberries, and sweet crabapples.  So far.

  • Basics of Hard cider making

    Join Jason MacArthur of former Whetstone Ciderworks in Marlboro, Vermont, for an introductory class on how to make your own hard cider.

    Learn about apple varieties, technique, equipment, yeast strains, fermentation, bottling and racking and the steps that lie between fresh juice and a bottle of your own delicious homemade elixir

    Basic cider equipment and Scott Farm's fresh cider for fermenting will be available for sale.
